Sea Level Rise Workshop Slated May 8 In Encinitas

A panel of six guest speakers will give presentations and answer questions about sea level rise.

ENCINITAS, CA – In an effort to inform the public about issues affecting the city's coastal corridor, Encinitas is hosting a workshop on sea level rise in May.

A panel of six guest speakers will each give a presentation regarding current research on coastal processes, bluff mapping and erosion, flood mapping, and coastal resilience to sea level rise. Following the presentations, a roundtable discussion will take place to answer questions and discuss possible actions to assess coastal erosion and sea level rise.

The workshop will take place from 6 to 9 p.m. May 8 in the Council Chambers at Encinitas City Hall. Coffee and appetizers will be provided.

  • Katherine Weldon, Coastal Resources Manager
  • Crystal Najera, Climate Action Plan Program Administrator
  • Laura Engemen, Program Director at the Center for Climate Change Impacts and Adaptation, Scripps Institution of Oceanography
  • Bob Guza, Professor Emeritus for Integrative Oceanography Division at Scripps Institution of Oceanography
  • Adam Young, Project Researcher for Integrative Oceanography Division at Scripps Institution of Oceanography
  • Darryl Hatheway, Senior Coastal Scientist for AECOM Water
