Stonesteps Beach Access Reopens Following Emergency Repairs
Access to the beach was closed in January after the stairway platform and support beam were deemed "structurally compromised and unsafe."
ENCINITAS, CA — The access stairs at Stonesteps Beach reopened Wednesday following months of repairs, the city of Encinitas announced. The stairs reopened to the public at noon after emergency repairs were completed.
Access to the beach was closed in January after a structural engineer for the city deemed the stairway platform and support beam "structurally compromised and unsafe."
The original as-built staircase details were utilized during the repairs with updated technical specifications, according to Travis Karlen, the city's director of Parks, Recreation and Cultural Arts.

"Emergency repair materials including brackets and beams required custom manufacturing and treatment to meet the technical specifications and to hold up in the coastal conditions," Karlen said in a news release.
Additional work is needed and will be scheduled at a future date. The work will take place outside the busy summer season to minimize impacts to beach access, according to the city.
