Students learn broken bone procedure

On April 17 and 18, Health Care Essentials students at San Dieguito High School Academy and Young Leaders in Health Care club members from Scripps Hospital in Encinitas will have the opportunity to repair broken bones in a procedure coordinated by orthopaedic surgeon Dr. Serge Kaska and SDA teacher Jennifer McCluan and partnered with Syntheses Trauma's Joe Lemersa.  The 9th-12th graders will repair broken forearm bones in an activity that simulates bone reduction surgery, using drills and equipment donated by medical device company Synthes, Inc.  Ten local schools have also been invited to attend.
