Surf Report & Forecast for September 14-15

Fun-sized SW swell; chest high surf.

Three-to-five foot playful sets from a SW groundswell sticks around today. Unless you're at the most well-known and crowded spots, you might see some sets walled up but it's still worth going out, that is, if you're not affected by red tide.

If you haven't seen the ocean at night, the crashing white water takes on a Vegas-like neon blue hue. After doing a double session yesterday, I can't breathe. Seems like my immune system doesn't like red tide. Many other surfers I've spoken with report the same thing.

But when there are perfect-sized playful waves, it's hard to let a little case of itchy, runny eyes and stuffed-up noses keep us out of the water.

A trace of NW wind can be seen on surface texture. Winds will remain moderately onshore today at about 10 knots. Late morning surfers once again have to contend with a very high, high tide; 10:30 a.m. at 5.3 feet. Low tide is at 5:00 p.m. at just under 1 foot, probably too late in the day for a significant sunset tide push.

Water temp is spring suitable: 65 degrees. Sunset tonight: 6:56 p.m.
(seems like it's setting earlier by a few minutes every day!).

Conditions are clean but if you're venturing south to surf, some beaches near Del Mar are still questionable after last week's sewage spill.

For tomorrow, Thursday the 15th, swell backs off but should provide enough juice for 4-foot wave faces on the bigger sets.
