Train Hits, Kills Woman In Encinitas

ENCINITAS, CA – A woman was fatally struck by a train Tuesday morning in Encinitas, sheriff's officials said. The deadly collision occurred on the railroad tracks near the intersection of Santa Fe Drive and Vulcan Avenue.
Deputies from the North Coastal Sheriff's Transit Enforcement Unit responded to a report of a train striking a pedestrian shortly before 6:30 a.m. According to the San Diego County Sheriff's Department, a southbound Coaster train was traveling at about 50 miles per hour when a woman ran onto the railroad tracks in front of the train.
The train hits its emergency brakes but struck the 56-year old woman, according to officials. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
