ENCINO, California (April 9, 2013)- It’s Aparent, Parenting and Behavior Specialists has added a Special Education program to its Parent Training and Children’s programing. “This program has been in the pipeline for over a year” said Faith Golden, the company’s owner and director.
“I wanted a program that would put an end to the frustration and stress that parents of special needs children currently feel,” said Golden. “Currently parents are spending hundreds of hours researching the same things. What a waste of time. They could be spending this time with their families.”
The Together program is guidance and assistance program that provides classes on all things Special Education from the “alphabet soup” aka acronyms to the laws that govern how Special Education documents should be written to be compliant with Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA). “Schools are underfunded and everyone from the teacher’s assistants to the Superintendents are overworked, which makes it more important for parents to know if their child’ documents are compliant with the law and more important if their child’s Individualized Programs are being implemented,” said Golden.
The program provides:
1) In depth classes with information most parents seek on Federal laws and regulations for Regional Center programs and policies and Local Education Agency (LEA) aka School Districts, and their policies and procedures.
2) Individual services which include; preparation for annual meetings, attending meetings if asked, read and comment on Individualized Education Plans (IEPs), making appropriate referrals, observation of child at home and school to help parents understand services and goals that are appropriate based on their child’s needs then assist parents to use the same practices at home that are used at school and more
3) Support groups including a Grief and Loss support group for parents of children with special needs lead by Diana Lynn Barnes, PsyD, LMFT. Diana is an internationally recognized expert on working with the assessment and treatment of perinatal mood disorders and grief and loss.
It’s Aparent, Parenting and Behavior Specialists and Faith Golden MA are pioneers in the development of programs for parents of children with special needs that provide support, education, guidance and assistance all in one program, in one place.
