DWP Worker Suffers Electrical Shock in Encino

Paramedics sent to the 17000 block of Rancho Street about 11:30 a.m.

A Los Angeles Department of Water and Power worker was shocked on a 4,800-volt power line in Encino today and taken to a hospital in critical condition.

Paramedics sent to the 17000 block of Rancho Street about 11:30 a.m. took the man to a hospital, Erik Scott of the Los Angeles Fire Department said.

The man, who was working on overhead power lines, “made contact with electrical wires carrying 4,800 volts of electricity,” according to the DWP, which had 460 customers in the area without service.

An update on his condition was not available this afternoon, according to Albert Gonzalez of the DWP.

Service was restored to all customers by 1:25 p.m., Gonzalez said.
