Encino Driver Killed when Car Hits Tree and Bursts into Flames

Authorities have been unable to identify a driver who was burned beyond recognition in a crash near the Encino Golf Course.

ENCINO, CA - A motorist was killed as his car hit a tree and burst into flames in the center divider of Burbank Boulevard in the Sepulveda basin flood control today.

The motorist had been going west on Burbank Boulevard near the Encino Golf Course a little after 2:15 a.m. It struck a tree and then a light pole, according to Officer Norma Eisenman of the LAPD's Media Relations Section.

The driver was the only person inside, and died at the scene, Eisenman said.

"The body is burned beyond recognition. So it's going to be a Doe for awhile," said coroner's Capt. John Kades. "It (the body) looks like a male."
