Fatal 101 Freeway Crash Knocks Light Pole Across Lanes

ENCINO, CA — A motorist was killed Thursday in a crash on the northbound Ventura (101) Freeway in Encino.

The crash was reported at 12:25 a.m. at Haskell Avenue, said California Highway Patrol Officer Tony Polizzi. Teresa Lynn Martin, 56, of Northridge died at the scene, said coroner's Assistant Chief Ed Winter.

According to reports from the scene, the vehicle crashed into a light pole and then went over the side of the freeway. The light pole ended up across some freeway lanes, causing minor crashes, the CHP reported.

The crash prompted closure of the transition from the northbound San Diego (405) Freeway to the northbound 101 Freeway while crews worked to clear the scene.
