Firefighters Tackle Encino Brushfire

Los Angeles firefighters made quick work of a slow moving Encino brushfire Sunday.

ENCINO, CA — Fire crews knocked down a small brushfire in Encino Sunday that scorched about one-half an acre of light grass, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.

The fire near 4300 N. Coronet Dr. was reported about 6:40 p.m., fire department spokeswoman Margaret Stewart said.

Firefighters were aided by a drop in the winds, Stewart said.

The flames moved slowly uphill and the department sent two water- dropping helicopters to assist the ground crews.

The fire was contained in about 20 minutes and crews remained at the scene to mop up any hot spots that might flare up, she said.

No injuries were reported.
