LA County Gets a Christmas Day without Freeway Fatalities
Nobody died on an LA County freeway Christmas Day.
The California Highway Patrol today reported no traffic-related deaths on Los Angeles County highways during the first 36 hours of this Christmas season.
The reporting period began at 6 p.m. Thursday and will end at 11:59 p.m. Sunday, CHP Sgt. Melissa Hammond said.
During that same time period last year, there was one traffic-related death on Los Angeles County highways, according to a CHP news statement.

Statewide, there were 10 traffic-related deaths so far in the 36-hour period, five fewer than last year’s total of 15.
In Orange County on Christmas night, a 78-year-old woman was killed in a two-car crash. Her family, who was following in a car behind her, witnessed the accident.

In Los Angeles County during the 36-hour period, CHP officers arrested 88 motorists for suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, 24 more than last year’s total. Statewide, there were 350 DUI arrests, compared with 285 last year.
