Man on a Motorcycle Crashes into Car on 405 at Mulholland, Dies

Traffic was tied up for hours.

A man in his 50s died today after his motorcycle collided with a car on the southbound San Diego (405) Freeway in Encino, authorities said.

The crash happened just before 9 a.m. on the 405 Freeway, just north of Mulholland Drive, tying up traffic for miles, according to California Highway Patrol Officer Chris Cracraft.

The CHP declared a SigAlert  at 9:12 a.m. and two lanes were expected to remain closed for hours during an investigation, Cracraft said.

The motorcyclist -- whose name was withheld pending notification of kin - - died at a nearby hospital,  Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman Cody Weireter said.

No other injuries were immediately known.
