Chris Kattan of “Saturday Night Live” fame was sentenced to three years probation today for driving under the influence of drugs on the Ventura (101) Freeway in the Encino area and rear-ending a Caltrans vehicle.

Kattan, after making an open plea to the court on the misdemeanor charge, was also ordered to attend a three-month alcohol-education program, 104 Narcotics Anonymous meetings and ordered not to drive with any measurable drugs in his system without a prescription, according to Frank Mateljan of the City Attorney’s Office.

Los Angeles Superior Court Commissioner Dennis Mulcahy also ordered him to pay a $500 penalty, plus fees.

The 43-year-old actor/comedian was arrested around 2 a.m. Feb. 10 on the westbound 101 west of Balboa Boulevard. According to the California Highway Patrol, a Caltrans crew had the right lane of the freeway blocked for guardrail maintenance, when the driver of a 2011 Mercedes Benz approached -- weaving across the roadway at slow speeds.

The driver, later identified as Kattan, drove through the cones on the freeway and struck the rear of a Caltrans vehicle. No Caltrans workers were injured.

A restitution hearing will be held Sept. 16 in Van Nuys Superior Court to determine how much Kattan may owed the state for damage caused to the Caltrans vehicle, Mateljan said.

Shortly after his arrest, Kattan wrote on his Twitter page, “I just got back from a 15hr flight after touring out of the country. I was exhausted. The police were so kind. I’m lucky nobody was hurt.”

Kattan was believed to have been on prescription medication. The website TMZ reported that Kattan had been taking Ambien.
