Southland Gas Prices Drop

A gallon of self-serve regular now costs, on average, half a cent less.

The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in Los Angeles County dropped by a half-cent Friday to $4.165, one day after decreasing by six-tenths of a cent.

The back-to-back decreases are the first since a 57-day streak of decreases ended July 13, according to figures from the AAA and Oil Price Information Service.

The average price is 1.3 cents less than one week ago, but 6.2 cents more than one month ago and 20.4 cents higher than one year ago.

``Prices throughout the region dropped very slightly during the past
week for the first time since July,'' said Jeffrey Spring of the Automobile
Club of Southern California.

``It's too soon to tell whether or not this signals the traditional fall
downturn in prices, but at least consumers can expect the same price or lower
at the pump as last week rather than an increase.''
