Suspected Car Thief Leads Police on High Speed Chase

Police used a Lo-Jack signal to track down a stolen car near North Hollywood.

A vehicle theft suspect led police on a chase in the San Fernando Valley this afternoon before being taken into custody.

Officer began chasing the suspect about 3:20 p.m. in the area of Tobias Street and Nordhoff Avenue in Panorama City after getting a Lo-Jack vehicle recovery system signal, said Officer Rosario Herrera of the Los Angeles Police Department’s media relations office.

The man -- whose age and name were not immediately available -- was taken into custody at 3:33 p.m. in the area of Coldwater Canyon Avenue and Raymer Street in Valley Glen, Herrera said.

Overhead footage broadcast by two television stations showed the suspect getting out the sedan, which appeared to be smoking, and being taken into custody by police.
