The Year of the Rabbit, Lollipop Dreams, Dancing Horses & More

Check out these five activities for families across the San Fernando Valley this week.

This week brings celebrations for the Year of the Rabbit, dress-up play for kids, watching animals romp in snow, and a magical show featuring humans and horses in an extravagant show.

CELEBRATE CHINESE NEW YEAR AT THE LIBRARY

Where/When: Thursday, 3:30 p.m. Encino-Tarzana Branch Library, 18231 Ventura Blvd., Tarzana.

Why Go: Fun for young kids and teens, who can experience the holiday with lanterns, noisemakers, dragons and more.

Pricing: FREE



Where/When: Thursday, 6:30 p.m.-8:30 p.m. Chi Dynasty restaurant, 12229 Ventura Blvd., Studio City.

Why Go: How often does a restaurant use its parking lot to throw a free party for the public? That means complimentary tray-passed appetizers and beverages by Tsingtao Beer—plus, the traditional lion dance, red paper lanterns and Chinese drummers.  The party favor is the kicker—receive $8 in "Chi bucks" to be used on your next visit.  Chi Dynasty will be open for dinner before and after the event.

LOLLIPOP DREAM HAPPY HOUR

Where/When: Tuesdays and Fridays, 2 p.m.-4 p.m.; Wednesdays, 10 a.m.-12 p.m.; Thursdays, 5 p.m.-7 p.m. Lollipop Dream children's store and party room,  14006 Riverside Dr., Suite 122, Sherman Oaks.

Why Go: Who doesn't like make-believe? Raid the Lollipop Dream closet that's  filled with dress-up clothes and accessories. Come in for crafts, face-painting and games. It's the perfect play-date fun place!

Pricing: $10 per child

ANIMAL SNOW DAY AT THE LOS ANGELES ZOO

Where/When: Saturday and Sunday. Los Angeles Zoo, 5333 Zoo Dr., Los Angeles.

Why Go:  Enjoy the rare experience of seeing some amazing animals play in man-made snow. The zoo will transform the Asian elephant, American black bear, Sumatran tiger and snow leopard habitats into snowy winter wonderlands.

Pricing: Free with paid zoo admission of $14 for adults and $9 for children ages 2 to 12.

CAVALIA

Where/When: Now through Feb. 15, 777 N. Front St., Burbank (Downtown Burbank at Interstate 5 and Burbank Boulevard). 

Why Go:  It's the largest traveling big top in the world—a grand-scale production with over 90 performers, including 49 magnificent horses of 11 breeds; riders, aerialists, acrobats, dancers and multimedia. 

Pricing: $39-$219
