Water Main Break Leaves Tarzana Customers Without Water

A rusted pipe caused the break that left customers without water temporarily Saturday.

Two separate water main breaks within minutes of each other disrupted utility service in Tarzana and Koreatown today.

Eight customers in the Koreatown section of Los Angeles were without water service after an 8-inch water main burst at 5:11 a.m. in the 3600 block of West Fifth Street, said Kim Hughes of the Department of Water and Power.

Four minutes later, DWP crews were dispatched to 6203 Calvin Ave. in Tarzana to repair a 6-inch cast iron pipe that burst there, Hughes said. It was not immediately known how many customers were affected in Tarzana, but the DWP reported just after 4 p.m. that service had been restored.
