Water Main Ruptures in Encino; 100 Customers Without Water

A DWP crew is on scene but there's no estimate on when service would be fully restored.

UPDATE at 7:05 p.m.: Water has been restored to the last 11 of 135 Department of Water and Power customers whose service was interrupted due to a water main break at the intersection of Ventura Boulevard and Haskell Avenue in Encino, says utility spokeswoman MaryAnne Pierson. A closed portion of Haskell Avenue is being reopened, Pierson says.

An 8-inch water main ruptured in Encino early today, flooding some four blocks and leaving about 135 customers without service, the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power reported.

The main located at the intersection of Ventura Boulevard and Haskell Avenue in Encino broke about 2:45 a.m., said DWP spokeswoman Jane Galbraith.

“The rupture flooded about four blocks of Haskell Avenue, north of Ventura Boulevard” before the water was shut off, Galbraith said.

All but 11 customers had their service restored by about 1:30 p.m. and the rest were expected to be back online by 4 p.m., when a closed portion of Haskell Avenue would be reopened, she said.
