Young Woman Killed In 101 Freeway Pileup In Encino

A woman in her 20s was killed in a multi-car crash in the early morning Thursday on the Ventura (101) Freeway in Encino.

ENCINO, CA — A young woman was killed early Thursday in a multi-vehicle crash on the westbound Ventura (101) Freeway in Encino, authorities said.

The collision was reported at 12:45 a.m. near Hayvenhurst Avenue, said California Highway Patrol Officer Tony Polizzi.

The woman, who was in her 20s, died at the scene, according to the coroner's office. Her name was withheld, pending notification of her relatives.

A motorcycle was involved in the crash, said Amy Bastman of the Los Angeles Fire Department. In addition to the deceased victim, one person was taken to a hospital and another was evaluated at the scene, Bastman said.

The deceased victim was a passenger on the motorcycle, a photographer reported from the scene. The condition of the hospitalized patient was not immediately reported.

All westbound lanes were blocked for the investigation but the CHP opened the No. 6 lane at 2:50 a.m. The remaining lanes were reopened about 7:30 a.m., the CHP reported.
