1 Killed After Big Rig Rolls On Route 76

The accident was at the intersection with Valley Center Road, the CHP said.

ESCONDIDO, CA – One person is dead after a tractor-trailer rolled onto its roof Thursday on state Route 76 in Rincon, about 15 miles northeast of Escondido.

California Highway Patrol received a report shortly after 8 a.m. of a big rig that had overturned and slid into the highway's ditch east of its intersection with Valley Center Road.

The driver and a passenger were in the truck at the time of the crash.

One person was extracted from the wreckage and flown to a hospital for treatment, said CHP Officer Tommy Doerr. The other person was pronounced dead at the scene.

Doerr was initially unclear whether it was the driver or passenger who died.

Traffic will be closed in both directions of SR-76 for several hours, he said.

No other information was immediately available.
