​4 Displaced In Escondido Apartment Fire

ESCONDIDO, CA — A late-morning apartment fire in Escondido displaced four residents Wednesday.

The non-injury blaze in the 1400 block of Juniper Street erupted for unknown reasons shortly before 9:30 a.m., according to the Escondido Fire Department.

While extinguishing the flames spreading through one of the two units in the two-story building, firefighters safely rescued the residents' dog, EFD spokesman Jeff Murdock said. The family's two cats were found "hunkered down" inside, also unharmed, and were reunited with their owners, he said.

The American Red Cross was called in to help with emergency shelter arrangements for the two adults and one child who live in the burned residence and for the single adult who resides in the other unit, which temporarily lost electrical service due to the fire.

The cause of the blaze, which appeared to have started outside the structure, was under investigation, Murdock said.
