The event included a scenic, two-mile walk, pancake breakfast and vendor village featuring local pet businesses.

ESCONDIDO, CA — Almost 1,200 animal lovers and about 600 dogs converged on Escondido's Kit Carson Park Saturday morning for San Diego Humane Society's 27th Annual Walk for Animals North County.

The event raised almost $140,000 for lifesaving programs, including animal rescue, wildlife rehabilitation and essential community support, according to SDHS officials.

"The Walk for Animals is more than just a stroll through the park, it is a powerful demonstration of our community's commitment to animals in need," SDHS President and CEO Gary Weitzman said. "Every dollar raised helps us provide a second chance for homeless pets and injured wildlife across San Diego County."

The event included a scenic, two-mile walk, pancake breakfast and vendor village featuring local pet businesses. There was also live music, dog- friendly activities and a blessing of the animals.

The SDHS will host a Walk for Animals in San Diego on May 2 at NTC Park in Liberty Station. More information is available at sdwalkforanimals.org.
