Today's riddle: What has a neck but no head? 🤔 (Answer below!)
1. Things To Do In San Diego: Thursday, August 27-Wednesday, September 2, 2026: David Byrne (sddialedin.com) — Escondido residents have a full slate of arts and music at California Center for the Arts, including Saturday's concerts with Kumar Bishwajit and Fuad plus a Southern California Ballet show. You can also join beginner swing classes and enjoy free Música en la Plaza with Sabrosas Latin Orchestra, alongside dozens of other San Diego County concerts, theater performances, and nightlife options through September 2.
2. Stone Brewing Faces Layoffs as Ownership Changes (thedailypour.com) — Stone Brewing's longtime Escondido brewery and bistro are being phased out under new ownership, with 58 local layoffs in October and roughly 220 jobs affected overall. While Firestone Walker and Duvel Moortgat take over Stone's brand and other San Diego locations, Sapporo says it has no long-term plan for the Escondido property, marking a major shift for the city's craft beer scene.
3. Thinking about getting a pet? Adoption fees waived Saturday at Humane Society to ease overcrowding (sandiegouniontribune.com) — Escondido pet lovers can adopt animals with no fees this Saturday as the San Diego Humane Society tries to ease severe overcrowding across its campuses. With shelters at 171% capacity and nearly 1,900 animals in care, the nonprofit is also urgently seeking foster homes, especially for large dogs, and reminds residents that all adopted pets come vaccinated, microchipped, and spayed or neutered.
4. California brewery abruptly closes down after 12-year run (nypost.com) — Electric Brewing in Murrieta has abruptly closed after 12 years, and the ripple effects in craft beer include looming layoffs at Stone Brewing's Escondido operations. Following Stone's sale to Firestone Walker and Duvel Moortgat, 58 workers will be cut in late October and a total of 220 employees at three Escondido locations are expected to lose their jobs, deepening concerns for local beer industry workers.
