2. Escondido approves annual police military equipment report (thecoastnews.com) — Escondido officials have renewed approval of the Police Department's military equipment inventory, detailing how drones, armored vehicles, rifles, and chemical agents were used in 2025 and noting no related complaints. City leaders say the tools, including drones that helped find a lost child near Grape Day Park, are used sparingly and only when no reasonable alternative protects residents and officers.
3. What's the best housing market in Southern California? (sandiegouniontribune.com) — Escondido ranks as one of Southern California's stronger housing markets in a new WalletHub analysis, placing eighth locally for real estate conditions and 30th for local economics. The study compares 52 Southern California cities on affordability, jobs, and market strength, putting Escondido ahead of many Los Angeles–area communities and close behind other North County cities like Vista and Carlsbad.
4. Sheriff's K-9 injured during Escondido burglary arrest (northcoastcurrent.com) — A sheriff's K-9 was stabbed but is recovering after helping Escondido police arrest an alleged burglary suspect on South Orange Street early Saturday. The dog, Nike, needed stitches for multiple facial wounds, while the suspect was jailed on several felony charges related to the break-in and resisting officers.
5. 9th Circuit to weigh parental rights and gender ideology (wng.org) — A major federal court fight over parental notification in schools began with policies at Escondido Union School District, where teachers say they were told to withhold students' gender identity changes from parents. Now, California and several families and teachers are battling in higher courts over how much information schools can keep from parents statewide, with Escondido's practices central to the case.
