1. New owner of vacant storefronts hopes to activate Maple Street Plaza (thecoastnews.com) — Downtown Escondido's Maple Street Plaza area could soon feel livelier after a new owner bought six Grand Avenue buildings, including several long-vacant storefronts, and plans to add four new retail spaces and restaurants. Tied to the Grand Avenue Vision Project and a nearby 128-unit housing proposal, these changes may reshape parking, outdoor dining, and the overall feel of Escondido's civic core near City Hall.
2. Business expo attracts 600 attendees (times-advocate.com) — Escondido's California Center for the Arts recently hosted the 12th annual North County Cafecito Business Expo, drawing over 600 attendees and more than 70 exhibitors, including key Escondido business groups. The event launched Cafecito Business Magazine and highlighted ongoing weekly and monthly networking meetups in Escondido and nearby cities, giving local professionals new ways to connect, celebrate Hispanic Heritage, and grow their businesses.
3. New Vista stretch of Inland Rail Trail now open (northcoastcurrent.com) — Escondido residents can now bike or walk continuously from the Escondido Transit Center through San Marcos to central Vista, thanks to a newly opened Inland Rail Trail segment. The Vista extension adds about 1.1 miles of paved, ADA-accessible path and moves the region closer to a 21-mile trail that will eventually connect Escondido all the way to Oceanside.
4. San Marcos Sheriff's detectives bust crime ring in Escondido (times-advocate.com) — Escondido residents should know that San Marcos Sheriff's detectives served a search warrant at a home in Escondido after an undercover operation tied suspects to a larger fraud and identity theft case.
