Tropical Storm Rachel brings coastal flooding to Southern California (rollingout.com) — Escondido faces a heightened risk of heavy rain and possible flash flooding as Tropical Storm Rachel nears Southern California, with forecasters giving the area a 40% chance of excessive rainfall. Residents should prepare for potentially intense downpours, coastal flooding nearby, dangerous surf and elevated tides through early next week, and closely follow local advisories as conditions evolve.
   

2. Escondido police receive $21,000 Safety Grant (sandiegocountynews.com) — Escondido's police department just secured a $21,000 state grant to expand bicycle and pedestrian safety programs across local streets and schools. Residents can expect more education events, youth bike trainings, helmet giveaways, and Safe Routes to Schools activities aimed at reducing crashes and making it safer to walk and ride around town through September 2027.
   

3. Roussin photos displayed multiple locations (msstate.edu) — A juried international photography exhibition at The Photographer's Eye Collective in Escondido is showcasing experimental photo encaustic work by artist and professor Wendy Roussin. Her featured piece, along with other alternative-process photographs, is part of a broader slate of exhibits and web galleries that highlight innovative approaches to land, sea, and sky imagery across the country.
   

4. Westview raises money for ailing coach; Cathedral Catholic pulls off win in final, wins prestigious tournament (sandiegouniontribune.com) — Escondido Charter's girls volleyball team turned in an impressive performance in the Diamond Division of the SoCal Volleyball Invitational, standing out among San Diego-area programs. The tournament also doubled as a fundraiser supporting Westview assistant coach Taimani Toilolo, who is battling Stage 4 Hodgkin's lymphoma, drawing the local volleyball community together on and off the court.
