SAN MARCOS, CA — A stretch of westbound State Route 78 will be fully closed in North County this week as crews work to replace weigh-in-motion concrete slabs, Caltrans said.
The highway will be fully closed at South Rancho Santa Fe Road in San Marcos from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. Monday through Thursday.
Drivers will exit at the South Rancho Santa Fe Road off-ramp and re-enter westbound SR-78 at the on-ramp on the road. Portable message signs will direct traffic.
Nearby residents and businesses should expect construction noise and lighting during the work, according to Caltrans.
The closures are part of the SR-78 Asset Management Project, which aims to preserve pavement and improve safety along a 17.7-mile stretch from the 5 Freeway in Oceanside to Escondido. The $126 million project is funded through the State Highway Operation Protection Program.
The schedule may change because of weather or traffic incidents. For real-time information on traffic speeds and lane closures, check QuickMap.
