Blaze Burns Garage Behind Escondido Mortuary

The fire sparked Thursday behind McLeod Mortuary at 1919 E. Valley Parkway, according to the Escondido Fire Department.

ESCONDIDO, CA – Fire officials Friday are investigating what sparked a blaze that burned a detached garage behind an Escondido mortuary.

The fire was reported at 6:53 p.m. Thursday behind McLeod Mortuary at 1919 E. Valley Parkway, according to the Escondido Fire Department.

Firefighters discovered heavy smoke coming from a detached garage behind the mortuary, Escondido Fire Battalion Chief Andre Paredes said. Five fire engines, one truck, one rescue ambulance and one battalion chief responded to the fire. They extinguished the flames in about 20 minutes.

Nobody was injured, Paredes said. The garage sustained moderate damage.
