Brush Fire Burning Along I-15, Near SR-78 In Escondido
The westbound SR-78 connector to northbound I-15 and the right lane of northbound I-15 were closed due to the fire, according to Caltrans.
ESCONDIDO, CA — A brush fire sparked Saturday afternoon along Interstate 15, near state Route 78 in Escondido, sending heavy black smoke over the area.
The fire was first reported around 1 p.m., according to the California Highway Patrol's incident log.
The CHP issued a Sig-alert for the area.

Authorities initially shut down the eastbound and westbound SR-78 connectors to northbound I-15 due to the blaze. By 2:19 p.m., the eastbound connector was reopened, but the westbound SR-78 connector to northbound I-15 and the right lane of northbound I-15, north of SR-78, remained closed, according to Caltrans. Traffic was backed up in the area.
