Miller Fire North Of Escondido 70 Percent Contained

VALLEY CENTER, CA — A brush fire prompted evacuations Friday afternoon in Valley Center, north of Escondido in San Diego County.

The blaze, called the Miller Fire, sparked around 1:30 p.m. near the intersection of Cole Grade and Miller lanes, a few miles west of Harrah's Resort Southern California, according to Cal Fire.

The blaze burned 37 acres before crews halted the spread of the flames. As of around 6 a.m. Saturday, the fire was 70 percent contained and had not grown in size. One home was damaged and three outbuildings were destroyed, according to Cal Fire.

Crews will remain at the scene throughout the day.

The blaze erupted shortly after firefighters stopped the spread of a fire that scorched nearly 100 acres east of Ramona.

Evacuations

Evacuations were ordered in the area of the fire. A temporary evacuation point has been set up at the Valley Center Community Center at 28246 Lilac Road.

Anyone who needs help evacuating large animals can call the county department of animal services at 619-236-2341.

Valley Center High School was sheltering in place, the San Diego County education office said.

Road closures

Roads were closed on Cole Grade Road at the intersections of Miller Lane, Valley Center Road and Oak Glen Place, according to Cal Fire.
