New Paintings by Elvin Armando
Thumbprint Gallery curates; opening reception falls on Escondido’s Second Saturday Art Walk

ESCONDIDO, CALIF. — Distinction Gallery will present “Soft Teeth,” a solo exhibition of new paintings by artist Elvin Armando, curated by Thumbprint Gallery. The show opens Saturday, Oct. 10, from 6 to 10 p.m. in the front main gallery at 317 E. Grand Ave., Suite A, Escondido, and remains on view through Nov. 7.

The opening coincides with Escondido’s monthly Second Saturday Art Walk, a community-wide celebration of downtown galleries, museums and creative spaces. The evening features live music and drinks inside the Distinction Gallery arts complex. Admission is free and all ages; drinks are available for purchase for guests 21 and over.

Elvin paints in graphite and oil on both wood and canvas, and is known for surreal portraiture — work that ranges from figures in dimly lit interiors to compositions built on alternate realities. He got his start in ArtHatch's teen program, where he attended during all four years of highschool. Now, in addition to being an artist he is the curator for EMAAC and also teaches for both EMAAC and ArtHatch.

Since 2009, Thumbprint Gallery has built a reputation throughout Southern California for championing artwork that blends the offbeat, contemporary and surreal. The gallery is known for a strong curatorial voice and a history of introducing emerging artists to wider audiences.

For more than twenty years, Distinction Gallery has showcased contemporary work by emerging and established artists, cultivating a worldwide reputation while remaining a cornerstone of the San Diego arts community. This collaboration brings together Thumbprint Gallery’s curation and Distinction Gallery’s legacy to spotlight Armando’s latest work.

Gallery hours are 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and noon to 5 p.m. Saturday.
