Child Struck, Killed By North County Driver

FALLBROOK, CA -- An 8-year-old girl in Fallbroook died Friday after she was hit by a driver while walking on a sidewalk with family members. The incident happened at 6:30 p.m. on northbound Heald Lane, according to the California Highway Patrol.

A 58-year-old female driver was heading northbound on the road when she turned right into a parking lot before striking the child. The child was walking northbound on the sidewalk across the entrance when the incident happened, CHP said.

The child died en route to Rady Children's Hospital, CHP said.

Alcohol and drug use is not considered to be a factor in this collision.

This incident remains under investigation.
