Countywide Boot Drive Held For Fallen San Diego Firefighter

Firefighters will be stationed at dozens of intersections across the county to raise funds for the family of Cory Iverson.

SAN DIEGO COUNTY, CA – Firefighters around San Diego County are participating in a boot drive Friday to support the family of a firefighter who was killed while fighting the Thomas Fire.

Cory Iverson, 32, a fire engineer for Cal Fire San Diego, died Dec. 14 while battling the blaze near Fillmore in Ventura County.

Iverson, who lived in Escondido, had worked with Cal Fire since 2009. He is survived by his wife, Ashley, their 2-year-old daughter, Evie, and a second daughter, who is due in the spring.

In support of the family, firefighters will be stationed at dozens of intersections across the county from 6-10 a.m. for the boot drive.

A GoFundMe campaign created for Iverson's family has raised more than $570,000. The Cal Fire San Diego County Firefighters Benevolent Fund has also established a donation page. The two funds are working together to support the family.
