For reasons that remain under investigation, the Chevrolet struck the left front of the Ford, according to CHP. The Chevrolet driver then lost control, causing his vehicle to veer to the right off the roadway, strike a wood fence, careen down an embankment, overturn, and strike a second fence, the CHP said.

The position and condition of the Silverado made access to the driver difficult, according to the CHP, and he died at the scene. His name was not immediately released. The driver of the Ford and her 16-year-old passenger were not injured.
