Driver Killed In Escondido Crash

ESCONDIDO, CA – A motorist was fatally injured Friday in a solo car crash near Reidy Creek Golf Course.

The man was headed west on Country Club Lane in Escondido shortly before 7 a.m. when his 2002 Lexus IS430 veered off the roadway and hit a curb between Broadway and Iris Lane, according to police.

The sedan continued on for a short distance before striking a large tree in a center median area, Lt. Mike Kearney said.

Firefighters had to free the driver from the crumpled car, after which medics took him to Palomar Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. His name was withheld pending family notification.

"Speed is considered a factor in the collision," Kearney said.
