Escondido Police ID Man Killed In Officer Involved Shooting: UPDATE
Damon Seitz, 40, reportedly threatened an officer who was investigating the death of his mother. Her death was not considered suspicious.

ESCONDIDO, CA — An armed man was fatally shot by a police officer who was investigating the death of the man's mother Friday morning at their Escondido home, authorities said.
According to the Escondido Police Department, officers responded to a call at 6:48 a.m. regarding a deceased elderly woman inside a house in the 300 block of James Street. Officials said Elizabeth "Betty" Seitz's death was not considered suspicious. She was 70 years old.
When officers arrived to the home, however, they were confronted by her adult son, who was armed with a gun, police Lt. Justin Murphy said.

According to a report by the San Diego Union-Tribune, the 40-year-old man had been talking with officers before taking out a gun and threatening one officer. The officer fired three or four rounds, hitting the man.
Damon Seitz was taken to a local hospital, where he later died.

The shooting occurred a few blocks from Orange Glen Elementary School, which police said was not affected by the incident.
