Police Investigating Escondido Collision That Left Motorcyclist With Severe Head Trauma

The crash left a 22-year-old motorcyclist with severe head trauma. The SUV's driver was not hurt, according to officials.

ESCONDIDO, CA – An investigation was underway Friday into a collision at an Escondido intersection that left a 22-year-old motorcyclist with severe head trauma.

Witnesses told police the rider of a 2002 Honda CBR motorcycle was speeding on northbound Broadway and slammed into the side of a 1999 Toyota 4Runner that was turning left from southbound Broadway onto Leslie Lane around 9:20 p.m. Thursday, Escondido police Lt. Mike Kearney said.

The force of the crash caused the rider to be thrown from the motorcycle and the SUV to overturn, Kearney said.

Police and firefighters rendered aid to the downed motorcyclist before he was taken to Palomar Medical Center to be treated for his injuries.

The SUV's driver was not hurt, according to the lieutenant.

The crash remained under investigation. Any additional witnesses were asked to call Officer Steve Braucht of the Traffic Division at (760) 839-4482.
