San Diego County Sheriff's Department: Plane Crash - Santee

The San Diego County Sheriff's Department continues to assist our partner law enforcement and fire agencies with a small plane crash in Santee.

It happened just after 12:00 p.m. near Greencastle and Jeremy Streets. Deputies from the Santee Sheriff's Station immediately responded to the scene along with the Santee Fire Department.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) says the plane was coming from Yuma, Arizona and scheduled to land at Montgomery-Gibbs Executive Airport or Montgomery Field in Kearny Mesa, but the twin-engine Cessna C340 crashed at 12:15 p.m.

Santee Fire Department says at least two people were killed and two others were taken to a hospital. In the County of San Diego, the Medical Examiner’s Office is the agency that rules on the manner or cause of deaths, as well as identification of the body once the family has been notified. The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) is investigating the crash. 

The crash happened near Santana High School. Students and staff remained on campus until classes were dismissed. 

At this time, Jeremy Street remains closed between 2nd Street and Mast Boulevard due to the plane crash investigation. We thank you for your cooperation. 

The American Red Cross opened a temporary evacuation point at the Cameron Family YMCA located at 10123 Riverwalk Drive in Santee.
