'So Matted They Could Barely Move': Ill Dogs Dumped In Park
This is the second report in less than a week of pups abandoned in Escondido.
ESCONDIDO, CA – Two severely neglected terroirs were found abandoned Sunday at Mountain View Park in Escondido -- the second report of dogs being dumped in the city in less than a week, according to animal officials.
The San Diego Humane Society is turning to the public to hopefully help identify the individual who left these latest dogs, that were covered in mud, fleas and "so matted they could barely move," the agency said.
According to a witness, a person in a gray car dropped the pair of pups near an empty lot around the Citrus Avenue park. Officers with the Humane Society's Humane Law Enforcement unit responded to the witness' call and brought the dogs to the organization's Escondido campus.

After emergency exams and clean-ups of the animals, the Humane Society’s medical team said the pups tested positive for parasites and now are quarantined and undergoing treatment.

"For the second time in less than a week, we have a person abandoning helpless animals in an Escondido park," said Humane Society Law Enforcement Sgt. Laurel Monreal. "We want the public to know, anyone who needs help with their animals can bring them to us without judgment."
In the similar case from Jan. 31, nine puppies crammed inside an empty dog-food bag, that was sealed with duct tape, were found at Kit Carson Park in Escondido.
The puppies, who appeared to be 10- to 14-day-old Shar Pei mixes, were cold, dehydrated and covered in urine and excrement inside the bag when found, the agency said.
