Urban Corps Seeks Corpsmembers for North County Location

Urban Corps of San Diego County is seeking Corpsmembers for its North County location. If you or someone you know is 18-26 years old, in need of a high school diploma, willing to work hard, have fun and get paid, Urban Corps may be the perfect fit. For more information, attend an Info Session at 2200 Micro Place in Escondido on Mondays (excluding holidays) at 9:00 a.m. No appointment is necessary and walk-ins are welcome. Urban Corps also is hiring Supervisors for its North County location to help train and supervise the Corpsmembers. Urban Corps is a certified local conservation corps whose mission is to provide young adults with the tools to expand their career opportunities through education, life skills training and paid work experience on projects that benefit the community.

Corpsmembers work and receive job training four days a week on community projects such as tree planting, habitat restoration, graffiti removal, recycling, construction and landscaping and attend school one day a week at Urban Corps Charter School – an onsite WASC-accredited charter high school to earn their diploma. With their participation, Corpsmembers receive a paycheck and additional services through our Corpsmember Development Department that helps them prepare for their future including career counseling, specialized job skills training, driver’s education and one-on-one assistance with resumes, job and college applications and job placement.

“Urban Corps is a one-stop shop to help young adults with a second chance,” said CEO Kyle Kennedy. “Not only a second chance for a high school diploma, but to get their life back on track and earn a paycheck while doing it. Often people are unable to go back to school because they need an income to survive. Urban Corps pays them for their job training and helps them get their high school diploma along with other services that leads them on the road to success.”

After completing the program at Urban Corps, youth are more employable, have the skills and confidence needed to succeed in the workforce and know the importance of resource preservation and giving back to the community. Graduates are either placed in jobs following graduation or are enrolled in higher education.

“Urban Corps motivates young people and helps them to grow in school, at work and personally,” said Corpsmember alum Diego Ortiz who graduated with his high school diploma from the program in June 2023 and was placed in a job at Caltrans.
