'Alert Citizens' Credited for Quick Containment of Carmichael Fire

"Alert Citizens Combined with Rapid Response from Metro Firefighters Results in an Abandoned House Fire Being Brought Under Control Limiting Spread to Neighboring Occupied Homes," a fire report states.

The following is a news release from the Sacramento Metropolitan Fire Department:

Firefighters from Metro Fire were dispatched for a report of a house on Marietta Way in Sacramento County [Saturday] morning after 4:00 a.m.  Alert citizens noticed this fire and made an immediate call to 911 which allowed firefighters to limit the growth of this fire and to save adjacent occupied structures.

On arrival, crews from Metro Fire determined this structure to be an abandoned boarded up home frequented by the homeless.  Fire was showing from the first and second floors.  Fire crews began a coordinated fire attack and search of the home.  Fire crews reported an all clear on a primary search while other members stretched hose to protect neighboring properties.
