Blog: Get Back to Business Basics!

Local business coach, Pete Schroeder, offers Business Nuggets to inspire and motivate you.

Here in Fair Oaks, today's business hurdles, with increased competition, higher costs and challenging economic times, can fill our days and weeks with worry and frustration, and we forget about Business Basics.  If this sounds like your situation, it’s more important than ever to Get Back to Business Basics.

That means to thoroughly and thoughtfully answer one question: “What is the primary Intention of my business?” Your answer should include the benefits to your customers or clients of the product or service you provide, and your target market(s). It should also describe the outstanding ways you distinguish yourself from your competitors.

When you answer this question, consider how times have changed from when you first opened your doors. If you haven’t shifted or expanded your approach – new ways of gathering leads, using new marketing channels, heightened customer service, structured planning – there is no better time than the present.

Remember the excitement your new business contained? What would it take to re-energize your motivation to match that of your “early days?”  If you identify and reduce the sources of interference/distraction, and focus on your goals (you have goals, right?), your how-to-achieve-them plan, and your vision of where you are committed to take your business, you will be able to elevate your enthusiasm and energy. Keep your goals, plan, and vision foremost in your awareness, and make your daily choices with them in mind. Get yourself back to business basics, and get excited all over again!

From the Coach’s Box:

Get out a sheet of paper and write out your answers to all of the above questions. Even if you think you know the answers, write them out. This process adds clarity and focus, and you might even find yourself elaborating on certain aspects that will help guide you as you write. Make sure you have not overlooked anything. Then, contact me and let me know how this process helped you.
