In the Fair Oaks history books it's known as the Johnston house, built by James R. Johnston in 1900. He was a retired merchant from Rock Island, Illinois, and chose to move to Fair Oaks at age 75. He lived to be 92-years-old, due to the fine Fair Oaks climate. His family kept the property until about 1940.
In recent years the home has been a residence, and housed shops and offices.
