Blog: How Jesuit High School Has Affected Me
Jesuit-Sacramento teaches its students how to carry out the motto of being a "Man for Others" when we go to college and beyond. This is my most recent reflection.
My name is Corbin M. Ellard, a previous and now
University of Alabama student.
Being at a major D-1, public school, I often reflect on how prepared me. Immediately a quote from the comes to mind.
He said, "Academics are extremely important, but Jesuit is not here to get you into
Harvard, we are here to get you into heaven." I always thought that the
quote was humorous yet extremely wise.

Being at the University of Alabama, I came across another quote on a memorial to the civil rights activist James Hood. It says, "One person can make a difference if that one person is committed to making a difference."
These two quotes linked to me instantly because of something Jesuit taught me. Life is measured by how many people one affects and how he or she affects them. If one is determined to live his or her life to affect others in a positive way, then he or she has lived a good life.

With this, people who have lived good lives are rewarded in heaven. Jesuit
taught me how to value life in a special way. A way to appreciate the gifts of
others, learn from others, and most importantly be a man for others.
