Carmichael Man Dies in Midtown Shooting
Joseph Long was an apparent bystander to gunfight near bars and clubs early Saturday morning.

A Carmichael man is dead and police are searching for leads after a late-night shooting near a popular nightlife spot in midtown Sacramento this weekend.
The Sacramento Bee has reported that the victim, 32-year-old Joseph Long, is from Carmichael. He was an apparent bystander, the Sacramento Police Department said in a news release, and died from a gunshot wound early Saturday morning.
Police were called to 28th and J Street at 12:35 a.m. for a report of shots fired and a male victim; they found Long in a parking lot with a gunshot wound. It appeared that he was hit by a round fired across the parking lot, where there was an altercation between two groups, police say. He was later pronounced dead at a nearby hospital.

The area and features businesses such as The Red Rabbit, Blue Cue, Harlow's, Centro Cocina and others. The intersection of 28th and J streets also includes an AM/PM gas station and a city park.
The police are asking that anyone with information contact the dispactch center at (916) 264-5471 or Crime Alert at (916) 443-HELP or text in a tip to 274637 (CRIMES). Enter SACTIP followed by the tip informatino. Callers can remain anonymous and may be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000.
