Interactive Map: Where Are Carmichael's Worn-Out Roads?
Know of a Carmichael road desperately seeking service? Add it to our interactive map and we'll let Sacramento County's Department of Transportation know.

Sacramento County Department of Transportation officials are aware of the deteriorating condition of certain roads throughout Carmichael.
Those officials are also aware of the department's current finances or lack thereof.
"It's really a matter of funding," said Daniel Regan, a Sacramento County media and communications officer. "It's the biggest problem. If we had all the money, we could fix all the roads right away."

Regan explains the available funds to fix the roads have never really kept up with the need.
"As a result, there is a huge backlog of streets within the county that are in need of maintenance," said Hardeep Sidhu, a SacDOT senior civil engineer.

Sidhu explains despite the lack of resources, there is always a plan in motion and that plan has already started to take shape for 2012. Areas throughout Carmichael have been targeted for a number of projects, including chip sealing and asphalt concrete overlay.
One of the most efficient means for improveming those dilapidated roads, Regan explains, is gathering community input and understanding what neighborhood areas require attention.
People can e-mail their requests through a SacDOT request form which can be found here or by calling the customer service hotline at 916-875-5171.

In the coming months, Carmichael Patch will be examining these efforts and how they are executed. Let us know about streets in your neighborhood in need of attention by adding them to the above map. It's as easy as clicking on the "Add" button and entering the address of the street in disrepair. As more streets are entered we will be sure to pass along the information to SacDOT representatives.
