Homeless man's beating a mystery.

Unclear roles

Two women were arrested in connection with the July 29 shooting death of a Carmichael man, the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department confirmed.

Aubry Anne Toews, 21, was taken into custody Tuesday during a warrant arrest, according to Sacramento County jail records. She was booked into jail on felony charges of murder, burglary and attempted robbery and is currently ineligible for bail.

Five people are now in custody for the fatal shooting of 54-year-old Michael Sanderson, who was discovered in his apartment in the 5700 block of Manzanita Avenue with a gunshot wound to his upper body. Sanderson later died of his injuries at a nearby hospital.

According to The Bee, a witness told sheriff’s investigators that two men burst into Sanderson’s apartment after midnight that Friday, with one holding the victim down as the other suspect robbed the apartment and then shot Sanderson.

A sheriff’s department news release states that Travis Monrow Mabson, 31, and Patrick Jerome McPherson, 24, were arrested Aug. 2 at Sacramento County residences on charges of murder, robbery and conspiracy.

One day later, Patrick Godines, 26, was arrested at his Stella Way residence after a brief standoff in which Godines refused to exit his home for 30 minutes.

All three men remain in custody.

Sheriff’s department spokesman Dep. Jason Ramos said he wouldn’t comment on what role each of the five suspects played in Sanderson’s murder.

“That would potentially compromise the case,” he noted.

Gas abrasion

Sheriff’s deputies found a bloodied, beaten homeless man at a Carmichael gas station last week.

The victim, a 42-year-old male, had apparently been injured near Madison and Manzanita avenues, according to a report from the sheriff’s department.

The report says the victim was in a daze and unsure what had happened to him or where it exactly occurred. But in answer to a question, Ramos said the victim believed he had been hit over the head with a hammer or some other blunt object by an unknown assailant.

The victim “had a laceration to his head, and was bleeding from it,” Ramos added. “He also had swelling to his cheek and eye area.”

The victim was transported by ambulance to a nearby hospital for treatment of his injuries, the report said.

Ramos left open the possibility that the homeless man was either robbed or attacked during a dispute with another transient.
