Cross-dressing Mugger Gets Away with $20

To paraphrase Aerosmith, dude looked like a very ugly lady.

Sacramento County sheriff’s investigators are looking for the man who dressed up as a female last Tuesday night and committed a mugging at an ATM in Carmichael.

Sheriff’s officials say the suspect approached the 49-year-old male victim outside the at 6705 Fair Oaks Blvd. around 7:50 p.m. on March 15. The suspect, described as a 20- to 29-year-old black male dressed as a woman, demanded the victim give him money. When the victim refused, a struggle ensued, with the cross-dressing mugger grabbing at the victim’s clothing and rifling through his pockets.

A sheriff’s report says the victim was able to strike the mugger several times with a closed fist during the altercation, but finally relinquished his money. The suspect, who escaped on foot, got away with $20.

This is not the first time a man in female garb has committed a robbery in Sacramento County. In September, an unidentified male suspect matching the same general description wore a pink hat, pink and black plaid skirt, and pink high heel shoes during an armed convenience store robbery in September. The suspect, also described as a 5-foot-10 African-American man of about 20, pointed a handgun at the clerk and cleaned out the cash register of the Pocket Road convenience store before running off in his high heels, a police department release said.

At the time, Sacramento police released two pixilated surveillance images and asked for the public’s help in identifying the suspect.

Sheriff’s spokesman Deputy Jason Ramos couldn’t say whether the two crimes were related.

“We can’t say for sure if this event is related to other robberies, but based on the unique description of the suspect, our Robbery Bureau is looking into potential connections,” he said.

Ramos said there were no other witnesses to last week’s mugging “other than the passerby who called it in and gave the initial information to our communications center.”
