INTENSE WEST NILE
ACTIVITY PROMPTS AERIAL SPRAYING OVER PARTS OF CITRUS HEIGHTS, FAIR OAKS AND
ORANGEVALE
--Spraying scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday this week
— The Sacramento-Yolo Mosquito and Vector Control District
announced today that aerial treatment for adult mosquitoes infected with
West Nile virus is scheduled for two consecutive nights on Wednesday, July 16 and Thursday, July 17 from approximately
8:00 pm to midnight over parts of Citrus Heights, Fair Oaks and Orangevale
in north Sacramento County. “Intense West Nile virus activity has
prompted us to move forward with plans for aerial spraying” said Gary Goodman,
District Manager. “Our surveillance efforts indicate high virus infection
rates and aerial treatments to reduce the number of infected adult mosquitoes
are necessary in order to protect public health” added Goodman. For the past
few weeks virus activity in these areas has been constant and many mosquito
samples and dead birds have tested positive for the virus. Despite the current
focus on these specific locations, all residents should remain cautious as
virus activity has been detected in other areas of both Sacramento and Yolo counties,
especially in Davis.
