Detectives Seek Additional Victims of Elder Scam

Sacramento Sheriff's detectives are searching for other possible elderly victims in scam.

On January 20, 2012, Sheriff’s deputies responded to a call regarding the robbery and kidnapping of an elderly female. While shopping at a wholesale warehouse in south Sacramento County, a 70 year-old victim was approached by two female suspects in the parking lot. The suspects showed the victim a package of money that they claimed to have found.

The suspects convinced the victim to accompany them to a bank where the money was supposedly authenticated by one of the suspect’s family members, reportedly a bank employee. The suspects convinced the victim to pay them several thousand dollars in return for sharing a portion of the found money. The suspects then drove the victim to various banks around town to withdraw the money to pay them.

When the victim realized she was the victim of a scam, she demanded her money back. The suspects refused, and violently assaulted the victim while driving in their vehicle. The suspects were later arrested after witnesses observed the victim being assaulted and notified law enforcement.

The suspects in custody for this incident are described as:

Suspect #1: 50 year-old white female, 5’7”, 250 pounds, with blond hair, blue eyes and
             a pale complexion

Suspect #2: 45 year-old white female, 5’9”, 190 pounds, with blond hair, blue eyes and
             a pale complexion

Detectives believe that these suspects may have committed other crimes using a similar approach between November 2011 and January 2012 at area Costco, Big Lots, or other retail stores. The suspects possibly wore wigs in other incidents.

Anyone who was a victim of a similar incident or has information regarding this activity is encouraged to call the Sheriff’s Sexual/Elder Abuse Bureau at (916) 874-5070.
